Festival NewsArchived news: 17 September 2008; 06 August 2008 Issue date: 22 September 2008 CAMRA CELEBRATE REAL ALE AT THE NANTWICH FOOD & DRINK FESTIVALCampaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is promising real ale lovers a real treat when it runs the Nantwich Beer Festival in the Civic Hall as part of the 8th annual Nantwich Food and Drink Festival. | Now in its seventh year, the beer festival will offer around 70 types of beer as well as a wide range of real ciders and perries.
The guest region this year will be the beers of Devon and Cornwall, which will complement those from Cheshire and its surrounding areas.
For the third consecutive year the festival will host the Champion Beer of Cheshire competition, an award eagerly sought after by local brewers. |
In addition the popular Real Ale Trail will run throughout September, featuring over twenty pubs in south Cheshire. Those taking part in the Real Ale Trail will be encouraged to visit participating pubs over the course of the month, have their passport stamped when they try a real ale and with a qualifying number of stamps they will be entered into a prize draw. CAMRA’s Mark Jeffries said: “We look forward to welcoming back our festival regulars and introducing first timers to the pleasure of drinking real ale. There will be live music on both the Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as a family session on Saturday afternoon and a quiet session on Sunday where people can chat and read the papers while drinking some excellent beer. All in all it promises to be a great event.” There will be free admission to both the Saturday afternoon and Sunday sessions. Friday and Saturday night evening sessions (5pm to 11pm) are £3.
Separate to the beer festival, over the weekend, guests of all ages can also take part in the festivals‘ Non-alcoholic Cocktail Workshops.
Flamboyant bar tenders from ‘Behind Bars’ (Bar Experts) will be flaring and shaking to show off their expert skills.
Budding bars tenders will be taught to make a number of tasty cocktails, such as a ‘Citrus Coolers’, ‘Island Delight’s’ and the festivals bespoke cocktail ‘Nantwich Punch’.
The Cocktail Workshop is also intended to educate young people on the dangers of consuming too much alcohol and to broaden understanding of the versatility of using fresh ingredients to make exciting and tasty juice drinks which are “Cool”.
The Nantwich Food and Drink Festival runs from Friday 26 September - Sunday 28 September 2008. There is an entrance fee to the Festival Island (£4 Friday and £5 Saturday and Sunday). This includes entry to all attractions in this section.
Featuring over 100 speciality producers, the festival will give foodies a real opportunity to celebrate rural food excellence with a mouth-watering range of food and drink.
